Banding on Vacation

I was very lucky to team up with Andrew and the gang at the Wekiva Basin Bird Banding group whilst on my holidays last month, see here: www.wekivaband.blogspot.co.uk

A very nice site located next to Lake Lotus (just north west Orlando) and just a 45 minute drive from where we were based.

Both Sunday morning sessions were fairly quiet in ringing standards, but I was very fortunate to band several Grey Catbirds, and process some other retrap species.

Common yellowthroat

female Cardinal

Several of the nets rides were out of action due to the breeding Barred Owls that were busy looking for food for their two new youngsters!

Managed to get a few life ticks here too, the highlight being a Blue-headed Vireo.

A big Thank you to Andrew and the gang for letting me tag along.

  1. Thanks for the shout out! It was great having you out and glad you got to get some Lifers and ring some of our birds. Stop by anytime. Especially in October when things are in full swing.
